Using vitamin C for preventing and treating common colds has been a topic of study for many years. While research indicates that routine vitamin C supplementation does not affect whether you catch a cold, there have been researches that demonstrate that regular vitamin C reduces the duration and severity of colds.

A supplemental dose of 1-2 grams was proven enough to shorten the time that the person would be suffering from a cold. Vitamin C supplementation was said to reduce the duration of a cold in around 14 percent in children.

Vitamin C seems to have an even more substantial effect on people who are under intense physical stress, such as athletes. With people like them, vitamin C duration was shown to be diminished by nearly half the amount of time it would take compared to someone less active. Although vitamin C supplements do not affect your risk for developing a cold, it does seem to affect severity and duration.

A lot of people right now would not like to catch colds because it will make them paranoid about the ongoing pandemic. Taking daily vitamin C will help reduce the possibility of acquiring colds especially for kids who are more susceptible to getting this. Children and even adults should take an average of 200 mg every day in order to reduce the chances of getting infected by the virus that causes colds.

This means that it can lessen the number of days that a person can be ill because they have enough vitamin C in their system in order to combat the disease. There are different types and brands of Vitamin C that are available. It will be ideal to know their differences so that you can make the best choice.
