The correct answer is option 1.
The role of xylem in the transport system of plants is to carry water and dissolved minerals from the roots, up the stem and leaves.

Xylem is one of the transport system of plants, the other being phloem.

The role of phloem, the other transport system in plant is to carry glucose and other nutrients such as amino acids from the leaves to all other parts of the plants where it is used and store for future use. The movement in phloem is bidirectional but the reverse is the case in xylem.
Hope this helps.
