To maintain a patent airway. This simply means that there is a pathway between the outside world and the patient’s lungs. When a pregnant woman with eclampsia starts to have a seizure in the hospital, the proper course of action is first to worry about making sure she has enough air. These are two lives that are in danger, and every nurse will be fully aware of this.

By making sure the woman having the seizure has enough air, they are also making sure the baby will survive. I’m not sure which would be more important to the nurses - the baby’s life or the mother’s - but making sure the mother has air will save both lives.

Maintain a patent airway

Answer D. The priority for the pregnant client having a seizure is to maintain a patent airway to ensure adequate oxygenation to the mother and the fetus. Additionally, oxygen may be administered by face mask to prevent fetal hypoxia.
