Any agent that might produce a defect in an unborn child is called a tetatrogen. Therefore the answer to your question is that all teratrogens are dangerous. These are agents or factors which causes malformation of an embryo. They include radiation, maternal infections, chemicals, and drugs.

Unfortunately for many, these include alcohol. Although one drink on occasion may not prove harmful, regular drinking will be, whereas drinking to excess leads to foetal alcohol syndrome in a newborn, most distressing to witness. Moreover, the syndrome has long-term effects on the child which are irreversible.
