Getting an infection is something we all have at times. Did you know that there are six conditions to bring on the spreading of an infection? All six must be present for the infection to spread. It is called the “chain of infection.” Breaking one link in the chain, stops the infection. One of the six links is identifying the organism. Identifying it will help determine the best procedure for eliminating the organism. The second link is to determine the reservoir.

Then the third is the portal of exit. How does the infection organism leave the reservoir? This exit deals with leaving the reservoir. Some choices are through the feces, mucus or through the blood. Fourth is the transmission. Fifth is the portal of entry. Last of the sixth condition is the vulnerable populations. People who are very old or very young are more susceptible to the organism.
