Latin America refers to countries or territories in the Americas where the Spanish or Portuguese languages are spoken as the main language. This includes Mexico, most of Central and South America, and Caribbean countries as well including Puerto Rico, Cuba and the Dominican Republic.

These Spanish and Portuguese speaking Latin American countries were originally settled by two different European countries. These countries are Spain and Portugal. As stated the languages of these two European countries still prevail in most Latin American countries today.
