The food is digested and then absorbed in the stomach and intestine. The absorptive processes depends on the correct digestion of the food and the optimum functioning of the organs with their secretions as well as the mucosal surface for absorption. If any of these critical process malfunctions, the food I s not absorbed.

Besides this, the intestine also has a constant blood supply that is used to take away the absorbed food and maintain a diffusion gradient for constant absorption. This is also essential or the absorption of substances though the stomach and the intestine after it has been digested thoroughly.
