C is the answer to this question. Mining can produce a lot of waste material that may not be evident to those who have never been in a mine before. There are different chemicals and tools that are being used that may contribute to the wastes that mines produce.

A lot of people are signing up petitions and are trying to engage other people to learn more about the bad effects of mining but since this is the livelihood of a lot of people from all over the world, mines may still be available and are still being mined on at present time. There are some mining areas that are not directly affected by mining but may still exhibit some problematic signs.

Mining creates waste material which can flow into streams.

Mining tailings (parts of the ground that aren't used.) Can eventually runoff from precipitation and end up either in the soil or in the surface water.
