Passive trasnport of diffusion is the movement of a substance from an area of high concentration to an area with a lower concentration. During facilitated diffusion, carrier proteins are diffused within the cell membrane.

Osmosis is the difussion of water through a selectively permeable membrane. Proteins are in charge of transporting ions and molecules through the plasma membrane.

They also serve as enzymes. In active trasnport, transport proteins within the membrane use energy (ATP) to move substances either inside or outside of the membrane. These proteins are what cause osmosis in the body.
