Literary devices are the devices used in short stories so that the reader can visualize the story in their head. Some of these devices include allusion. This is when the author refers to another famous work or quote from the work. Another literary device is personification which is when nonhuman things are given human qualities.

For example, personification would be “the wind blows.” Metaphors and similes also compare two things that are usually not compared together, but they do have something in common. Foreshadowing is a clue or hint given at the beginning of the story for something that will happen later. Alliteration is the repetition of consonants in the same line of a poem or text. This makes the line sound better because it is easier to say.
