A bimetallic strip consists of two strips of different metals, usually steel or copper or steel and brass. The strips are joined together by riveting, welding or brazing to form one metal strip. It is used to convert a temperature change into mechanical displacement.

The strip contracts when cold and vice versa when hot. It is used in furnace controls. The different expansions force the flat strip to bend one way if heated, and in the opposite direction if cooled.

A thermoPro thermometer is placed in cake pastry while cooking to measure the temperature.
