There have been massive protests in India involving farmers. The protests started last August of this year, 2020, and are continuously ongoing until the present. The cause of the protests started when the Indian government released the Model Farming Acts that supposedly aims to protect and make the livelihood of the farmers better.

Instead, according to the farmers, the acts are very much pro corporations to the point that in the future, “they will be at the mercy of the corporations”. As of December 2020, protests are still not halting but the farmers have already released their demands from the government that include 11 points that they want to change or receive before they stop the said protests.

Thousands of Indian farmers are protesting in India. The reason why is because they were not able to reach an agreement with the government over the amendments that the government put forward.

The laws that were being proposed would hurt the livelihood of the farms and it would create a gateway for private companies to enter the farming world, exploit it, and take away jobs from the farms.

The feeling of these laws could spread across the world to other farms. Despite the numbers for COVID-19 growing in India, the farms are still out protesting these laws outside the capital of India.

Recently, there was a protest organized by farmers in some parts of the world, especially in India about three farm Acts that farmers believe are government intentions to bring them at the mercy of buyers. After the three farm Acts were passed by the Indian parliament, different local protests were organized in Punjab. However, the protest took a different turn after two months of local protests, as farmers were seen showing their grievances about the laws. One of the demands of the farmers is the revocation of all three farm bills. They also asked the government to release their leaders. The farmers did all they could to enter the nation's capital but were stopped by police and other security agencies with tear gas and water canopy. This, however, led to the death of 41 farmers while hundreds of people were injured. However, the Indian government has responded by saying the farmers acted on misinformation.

The government proposed amendments to specific laws that the farmers believe will harm them economically and render them open to farmers' exploitation. The laws directly impact India's farmers, but the damage could end up causing a global agricultural disaster. People depend on imports from India. Farmers across the country have been protesting outside New Delhi. President Ram Nath Kovind promulgated the farmer's produce, trade, commerce ordinance, and farm service ordinance. It was suggested that these ordinances would change the agricultural sector. Under the farmers' produce trade and commerce ordinance, farmers could sell their products to anyone they see fit. The other ordinance created a standard for contract farming, which is meant to support farmers. The center also initiated the necessary commodities amendment directly in the Parliament, which deregulated the production, supply, and delivery of essential products, including potatoes, onions, and various produce. Farmers began protesting in June when the ordinances were declared.
