A mercenary can also be called a soldier of fortune. A mercenary is an individual that takes part in military conflict for his profit. Mercenaries fight for their money or other personal interest and not for political interests.

There have been several declarations that state that mercenaries are not recognized by law and also they do not have any legal protection. From the year 1989, it was established that becoming a mercenary or starting recruiting mercenaries was not allowed, and different conventions and laws have been set in place to help prevent that no one becomes a mercenary or start the recruiting of mercenaries. Lastly, since the ban that was placed in 1989, the owners of the mercenaries group operate secretly.

The correct answer to this question is no one. The reason for this is that mercenaries are illegal. In 1989, laws were put in place to prevent a person from becoming a mercenary. This also has made it illegal for mercenaries to become recruited. When these laws were first put in place, there were conventions that occurred to ensure that no one would have a mercenary. Before these laws and conventions occurred, a mercenary was a soldier that fought for a party and recruited people from other countries for the purpose of fighting for the same goal. Now, no one can be one.

Just in case you are confused with what a mercenary is, this is known to be a sort of soldier who will be fighting for a certain party but without having to believe in what the party or group is fighting for. It is quite common for people in the past to recruit mercenaries from other countries as long as they are willing to reach their personal goals. Starting from the year 1989, it is already not allowed to become a mercenary or to start recruiting mercenaries. There are conventions and laws that are set in place to prevent this so no one owns mercenaries anymore.
