The cell wall is a protective layer in many different cells, including plants, fungi, algae, and bacteria.

Animal and human cells do not have a cell wall.

• The purpose of a cell wall is to provide strength, support, and protection for the cell. The cell wall in plants is made up of mostly cellulose, and it contains three layers in many plants.

• It is an outer layer encompassing specific cells that are outside of a cell membrane.

• All cells possess cell membranes, while only fungi, plants, bacteria, and archaea have cells with cell walls.

• The cell wall also provides adequate protection from pathogens, such as bacteria that are attempting to invade the cell.
