1. To quote and cite a poem in an essay using MLA format, the first thing you need to know is that always put in quotation when quoting a line of a poem. However, there are times you would want to quote like two to three lines at once; all you need to do is to use a forward slash "/" to indicate the line breaks. Also, if you would be having a stanza break at any point when quoting more than one line, use a double slash.

2. If you would be quoting Kore than 3 lines, always begin with an indented paragraph.

3. For in-text citations of poems, always include the poet's last name after quoting a poem. The title of the poem should be included, too, especially when quoting more than one poem by their same author.

4. If you are citing poems that are published with line numbers, always use the line numbers to cite the lines you are quoting. However, if the line numbers are absent, use the page number instead.
