All items are made up of matter, and they all have mass. Mass of an object is the basic property of the item or a fundamental measure of the amount of matter in the object. It has to do with gravity pulling against the mass.

The gravitational pull of the earth is why you weigh 100 pounds, and if you were on the moon, you would weigh no more than 16.67 pounds. So there would still be mass just not so much.

You can figure the mass of anything by using this equation.

• Mass = volume x density
• Mass = 1000 cm3 x 1.52 g/cm3
• Mass = 1,520 grams
