There was a time when people would only hear from other people when they get letters through the mail. Mails used to take days, weeks, and even months before they would arrive at their destination. They also cost a lot of money because of the process that they would go through before they arrive.

If in case you have given your address to someone and you do not want to get mail from the person anymore, you can do the following:

*All you have to do is to place “return to sender” on all of the letters that you have received, and the mailman will bring it back to the post office.

*You can also place a refused stamp on it so that it will go back to its recipient

The first step to take when sending mails to the sender is to write “Not at this address” on the envelope or any part on the item. At times, you can get wrong mails delivered to your address, probably because someone who formerly lived very close to your place or area used the address.

The best thing to do is not to write “Return to sender,” but simply write "Not at this address" on the mails being delivered to you. If you are lucky to be around when the mails with the wrong address are being delivered to you, you can simply return them to the mail carrier; they know what to do, so you won't keep getting the same mails in the future.

However, in the event that you didn't meet the mail carrier when the mails were delivered, simply contact any local post office very close to you. Another method you can use to return mails to the sender is to put them inside a mail collection box. By this, the mail will be returned to the post office and will be delivered to the right person.

When it comes to the delivery of mail, there are times when mistakes happen. However, the USPS gives the option to return unwanted or wrongly delivered mail back to the sender. If the address happens to be correct, but the recipient no longer lives there, a person can write "Not at this address."

A person can also contact the USPS directly to ensure mail for this recipient is no longer delivered there. A person may also give the mail to the delivery person, letting them know the receipt doesn't live there. Alternatively, they can return it to a USPS dropbox.

USPS has to deliver a lot of mails on daily basics; mistakes do happen once in a while; it is either the mail has not come to the right address, or it is addressed to someone that is not living there.

Before returning the mail for someone not living there, write on the envelope, “not this address.” Most times, mails are usually delivered to the wrong address.

Here are somethings you have to do: put back the item in your mailbox or hand the item back to the delivery person if you prefer, don’t mark or write anything on the item.

Finally, for unwanted mail addressed to you, you have to write “refuse” on the envelop, and if you have opened it, repackage the item with new postage.
