There are different months wherein Pride Month is normally being celebrated, but it has been decided that pride month will be celebrated in June. This is mainly because June is the month wherein the Stonewall Riot is being commemorated.

It is also in June wherein Ex-President Bill Clinton first said that June is going to be Gay and Lesbian Pride Month. This occurred in 1999 and in the year 2000. Ex-President Barack Obama also announced June as the Gay Pride Month.

This occurred from 2009 to 2016, wherein there are different pride marches that happened all over the United States. There are also a lot of pride marches that are happening in different parts of the world in June.

Pride month is celebrated in June because the walk to freedom for Lesbians, Gays, bisexuals and transgender society took place on the 28th day in the month of June 1969.

The breakout with the police at the stonewall inn on June 28, 1969, was a result of anger and pain felt by the gay community, the police harassed, maltreated and treated the gay community as if they were less of human.

The gay community had been working for equal right since 1924 but it this was not considered at the time, but it was later paid attention to. After the bill has been passed and the gay community enjoyed the same right with other citizens.

In the following year, the members of the LBGTQ community gathered and organized the first pride month.

Many just see the month of June as a way for the LGBTQ community to have parties and festivals to celebrate who they are, but Pride Month has a much deeper meaning to it. The month is celebrated in the month of June to commemorate when the Stonewall Riots occurred. In 1969, at the end of June, the gay community came together and led a demonstration in response to police raids that occurred in the New York community.

During this time, gays were not welcomed in many public places, so they were forced to establish their own places of socialization. Police felt the need to raid these places, so during the riots, the gay community fought back against the police.

Pride Month is celebrated in June because the incident that led to the significance of this celebration happened in the month of June. Although, there had been continued efforts by gay activists’ right from 1924, about the need for the government to pass a law that would protect gay rights, the incident that happened in New York City’s Greenwich Village in June 1969, at the Stonewall Inn, catalyzed the gay rights movement in the United States.

On June 28, 1969, the police invaded this place where transgender, bisexuals, lesbians used to hangout and arrested those selling liquors without a license from the relevant agencies. While the police were carrying out their duty, they were resisted by the patrons of the bar, and this led to a big riot, which also lasted for days. The following year i.e., 1970, the members of the LGBTQ community planned and observed the first anniversary of the unfortunate incident that happened on June 28, 1969.
