MSC is an abbreviation for Massive Storage Device Class. It is often used to describe USB devices or flash drives. This type of class has also been used in portable media players as a source of internal memory. With this, the user is able to save their files.

MTP is an abbreviation for Media transfer protocol. It came after MSC and it's purpose was to replace MSC. MTP differs because it has DRM support. The purpose of DRM is to prevent a copyright from being played on any other device than the one that is was downloaded on. On the other hand, MSC can be used to recover disk.

MSC stands for Massive Storage Device Class and is a term that is commonly associated with USB or flash drives. Many portable media players have also implemented this format for their internal memory, where users save their media files. Media transfer protocol is a newer protocol that was intended to replace MSC in Media Players.

MTP allows the transfer of all information linked to the media file, such as album art and other various data. It permits the user to password and safeguards the entire drive to prohibit access. All features are lacking from MSC.

One variable that has inspired support for MTP among the big software companies is DRM support. DRM inhibits a copyrighted file from being played in another device than one it was initially downloaded to file. MTP cannot use common disk recovery, while MSC can. It can also allow access to the internal file system, while MTP prevents it.

MSC stands for mass storage device class is a common term associated with USB and flash drives. A lot of media players have adopted this format for their memory, where users save their media files.

On the other hand, MTP means media transfer protocol. It is a newer protocol that has been signed to replace MSC in media players. One of the major features of MTP is that it allows the transfer of all information related to the media flies. All these features are missing in MSC.

MTP allows the playback of audio files that have DRM protection while MSC does not. MTP devices cannot use a common disk recovery tool, while MSC devices can use a common disk recovery tool. Lastly, MSC allows a direct modification of files while MTP does not.

To understand the difference between the two, you need to know what these two terms mean. When you say MSC, this means Mass Storage Device Class. You will use this term in order to describe your flash drive or your USB device. When you say MTP, this stands for Media Transfer Protocol.

This is something that has been newly introduced and the main goal of this is to replace MSC as something that people normally use. Between the two, MTP will definitely offer more in terms of functionality. It will also be easier to use as compared to the MSC. Whenever these protocols are used, you will see in your device that it will appear as “Media Device.”
