Delirium is known to be a condition that may be caused by an extreme condition. There are also times when this is caused by drug use. When a person becomes exposed to too many drugs, this can become a problem in the future. Take note that delirium is often going to be reversible.

When you say dementia, this is a condition that may be caused by different changes in the brain that are caused by different factors. Take note that there are not enough details to know what these factors are exactly. Once a person has this condition, this is going to be irreversible. It is going to be slower. There are a lot of people who do not remember things anymore in severe instances.

Delirium and dementia are two different mental conditions but they can as well share certain similarities, most especially when you think of the fact there are certain similar symptoms common to the two conditions. Dementia simply refers to a progressive decline in the cognitive function of the brain. This is usually caused when there is a damage or disease in the brain. At times, it can be caused by depression, alcohol abuse, stress, lack of vitamin B12, etc.

Some of the symptoms of dementia are lack of memory, lack of coordination, inability to accurately make decisions, perplexity, etc. On the other hand, delirium is also a mental condition with symptoms such as the inability to concentrate, anxiety, confusion, hallucination, disorientation, etc. Delirium is usually caused by severe infection, drug intoxication, and dehydration. The various symptoms of delirium usually come at the initial stage of the condition, but they can be reversed. As for dementia, this condition is incurable and cannot be reversed.
