The Academy Awards are presented by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The actual award that is given to the winning participants is the Oscar, which is 13.5 inches tall and he weighs 8.5 pounds. This gentleman is gold plated bronze and has a black metal base, and these awards are granted for artistic and technical merit in the movie industry.

The first Academy Awards was held on May 16, 1929, and every year after that. So, the Academy Award is the actual ceremony, and the Oscar is the coveted statue to display the receivers' success.

In every field of entertainment, there are awards to showcase and celebrate the excellence of the field. Musicians are celebrated through the Grammy's, television shows are celebrated through the Emmy's, and athletes are celebrated through the Espy's. Though who act in movies are also celebrated through the Academy Awards.

The difference between Academy Award's and Oscars is that Academy Award is the formal name, while Oscar is the nickname. The statute that is awarded to the winners is also called an Oscar. This name is easier for fans to remember and easier to use on social media when promoting the awards.

There are two main prestigious awards- giving bodies for actors or simply put two major ceremonies in the entertainment industry. We have the Golden Globes, while the second one is called the Oscar. There is a very clear difference between the two. The issue is that some people have named another third; they call it the Academy Awards.

In the real sense, the Academy Award is actually the same as Oscar. Oscar is just very much popular and also the term Oscar is more frequently used than Academy Award to refer the same award. Academy Award is actually more formal, and it is also the original term that was given to the award, unlike Oscar, which is very commonly used, and the more popular, newer term used for the same award.

Oscar, in some cases, also refers to the names of real persons, which are from whom the popular and alternative nickname to the Academy Award was derived.
