It can be confusing for some people to know the difference between sickle cell anemia and sickle cell trait. To make it easier for you to understand, when you say sickle cell anemia, this is a type of disease that people may become diagnosed with.

This is a condition wherein the mutated form of hemoglobin that is available changes the red blood cells and the shape of the red blood cells. When a person has this disease, the whole body is usually deprived of oxygen. A person who has the sickle cell trait means that he/she carries the gene to get this disease but the person does not necessarily have this disease.
