UFA stands for Unrestricted Free Agents, and RFA stands for a Restricted Free Agent. UFA is a player who doesn't belong on any team. The Player has been set free by his club. His contract wasn't converted after expiration, or he was not selected among the preliminary list of amateur players. This procedure makes UFA's free to explore offers from the other teams, and they can choose with which various teams to sign a contract.

An RFA means that a player is free to seek potential teams that may offer a new contract. The rules explicitly pertaining to free agents vary from one professional sports team to another. Before the Player can sign a contract with a new club, the currents club reserves the right to match the new offer teams, and then the Player must remain with the old club, given that other technicalities are also satisfied.
