Sponges and corals are both organisms that live under the sea. Both of them come from the phyla family. Sponges belong to the Porifera phylum, and corals belong to Cnidaria phylum. The body of the sponges is very unique and exciting, as they lack solid tissues, and they have hard protrusions called spicules. Corals have differentiated levels of tissue, and they live in large colonies, but they present as single organisms.

Sponges possess several tentacles. They use tentacles to prevent being attacked by their prey. Corals, on the other hand, are symbiotic and depend on the symbiotic algae for sustenance. These algae give the corals their reddish, pinkish shade of orange.

A colony of corals can be found in the shallow waters because they need sunlight, and both sponges and corals consume food from underwater. The exact shade of coral that the reefs have determines whether the coral is healthy or unhealthy.
