DUI and OWI both stand for offenses involving operating a vehicle while under the influence. DUI means driving under the influence. OWI stands for operating while intoxicated. DUI is a term that is widely known, for it is used all over the United States.

Though it is more known, each state has its own laws when it comes to DUIs. OWI is specific to certain states like Wisconsin and Iowa. Both of these laws are important and have been put in place to protect all drivers because 40% of accidents are a result of a driver being under the influence.
