Google earth is a desktop application, and Google Maps is an internet application. Google Earth has to be placed on the computer, and it can only be retrieved through that particular computer. Simultaneously, Google maps can be seen through any web browser, minus limitations, or additional software. Google maps is a web-based application that was created by Google. It also serves as a base for many maps-based services such as Google Maps website, Google Ride Finder, Google maps transit, and embedding capability through Google maps API.

Google Earth is also mapping software designed by Google, but it provides extra features and an improved interface. Google earth offers users a 3D representation of earth based on satellite imagery. The program presents a map of the earth by implementing satellite images, aerial photography, and GIS data on the 3D globe. It permits users to see many different views from a plethora of angles.
