A lawyer is a person who is still studying for a degree in law so that he could practice the legal profession of representing his clients in a law court. So also, anybody who has a degree in the study of law is also considered as a lawyer. One the other hand, an advocate is any person who is within the legal profession and also possesses a degree in law, and he also goes further to representing his clients in the law court.

An advocate usually presents the pleading of his client with an attempt to help him to win the case and, in so doing, avoids a jail term, or any punishment, or to be compensated. A lawyer is a general name used for anyone within the legal profession, whether a student, a graduate of law, a solicitor, or an attorney, while an advocate is one who presents the case of his client before the court of law.
