The Garmin Forerunner 405 and Forerunner 405CX are two different series from the Garmin Company. They are used for as GPS to track distance, and they are also useful for some other functions, like calculating the calories burnt.

The forerunner 405 makes use of the stored profile or information of the user together with the distance covered, and other measures to determine the number of calories burnt.

What makes the forerunner 405CX special is that it goes further to add the heart rate to its own. Actually, some versions of the forerunner 405 have a heart rate monitor, which you can use to also compute the heart rate. Another key difference between them is that the forerunner 405 is not always tight on the waist, thus giving some people with small waist issues to use it. The forerunner 405CX, after all, comes with different waist straps, of which you can make use of the size that fits you without any slack.
