Kinetic friction applies to the frictional force of an object in motion. If a force is being employed to a stationary object, friction is only a static force until movement takes place. Friction is a force that happens between two or more exteriors of bodies that is typically in the direction opposed to the force being applied to something.

Static friction is a force that defies the movement of two objects against one another when objects are typically at rest. The most significant contribution to static friction is the coarseness of the surfaces. The coefficient of kinetic friction is lower than static friction. The coefficient of kinetic friction has a perpetual value for each pair of contacting surfaces. Static friction is the force that prevents an object, placed on a sloped surface from sliding.
