Concentric contraction is when the muscles are shortened when they contract, and the force that is generated enough to overcome resistance. When someone repeatedly lifts a dumbbell and performs a bicep curl, the created force is more than enough to carry the item or pick it up.

This process causes the muscles to shorten because the force is less than the muscle's maximum capacity, which means that the weight can be handled. Eccentric contraction is where the muscles are lengthened when they contract, and the force that is created cannot take on the opposition of the external force.

These kinds of contractions are more likely to occur while performing every- day activities. When muscles are active, they will lengthen. This can happen even if you are walking around your neighborhood. The most common example of an eccentric contraction is when you pick up or handle something too heavy.

The motion of the body is caused by the muscles and enabled due to contraction. The term contraction can be explained using the two terms Eccentric and Concentric. Eccentric contractions are a type of muscle contraction that causes the muscles to extend or lengthen, whereas concentric is a muscle contraction that causes the shortening of the muscles. An eccentric contraction occurs when the force produced by the muscles is not sufficient to resist or overcome the external forces. It causes the length of the muscles to increase. On the contrary, a concentric contraction occurs when the force produced by the muscles is sufficient to resist or overcome the external forces. A concentric contraction won't cause the muscles to lengthen. Due to the nature of our activities as human beings, concentric contractions occur during exercise, while eccentric contractions occur when we walk. Also, eccentric contractions can lead to injuries.

When you say eccentric and concentric, you are referring to muscle movements. When you say concentric movements, these are movements that will not damage your muscles. The tension will normally rise in order to meet the demands that your muscle requires so that it will be properly worked out.

When you say eccentric movement, you are referring to a type of movement wherein the resistance will be greater than the force that is being produced. If this would be done for long periods of time, it will have the tendency to damage the muscles. Take note that you should be familiar with the proper ways to exercise so that you will not damage your muscles in any way.
