Robert Downey Jr. was chosen to star in the movie. This project was announced in March 2017. The filming began in March 2018. Filming was on till June. Location was placed all over the United Kingdom. Dolittle was theatrically released by Universal Pictures in the United States on January 17, 2020. Dolittle has an animal version. The animal cast includes a bear, a lioness, and a tiger. In March 2018, Octavia Spencer, Craig Robinson, and many others joined the voice cast, and production started in mid-February 2018.

Dolittle releases to theatres on January 17, 2020. Robert Downey Jr. was chosen to star in the movie on March 20, 2017. Back then, the film was set to be called. "The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle. In December 2017, Jim Broadbent and Harry Collet were cast. Michael Sheen and Antonio Banderas were the next stars named to be cast in the film in February 2018. It was also at this time that Emma Thompson, Ralph Fiennes, Tom Holland, and Selena Gomez were cast to be the voices of the animals.

The original release was May 24, 2019. It was subsequently pushed back to January 17, 2020.
