Vegan diets are stringent and complicated to follow compared to plant-based diets. Plant-based diets allow for more creative improvisation. Plant-based could mean that you do not eat meat from an animal, but you still eat dairy foods such as yogurt. It might also mean you eliminate all red meats but eat the occasional poultry dish.

The vegan diet is much clearer on what it allows and what it does not. People who follow vegan diets can not consume any animal products. While there is room for those on a plant-based diet to maintain proper nutrition, a lot of times, those on vegan diets have to take supplements to bridge the nutrition gap.

Plant based diet is a diet that involves limiting your meals to mostly foods gotten from plant such as whole grains, nuts, legumes, fruits and vegetables. This can include limited animal based product such as eggs, dairy products and fish. A vegan diet on the other hand is a diet that consists of only plant foods. It does not contain any food gotten from animals; even eggs, fish and dairy products are not allowed. The major difference is that plant based diet allows you to consume small amount of animal product from time to time. If you are hoping to choose between plant based diet and vegan diet, the option is left to you as both eating plans have pros and cons. This does not mean people with plant based eating plan will never eat animal products but people on vegan diet totally avoid consuming anything that has its source from animal products.
