This will depend on the reason why dementia has developed. If this is due to Alzheimer’s Disease, which is the most common reason for dementia, there are medications that people can take to slow down the progress potentially. These medications are Namenda and Cholinesterase Inhibitors. There are also some who may get dementia because of other diseases.

The best thing that can be done by those who are caring for the person with dementia is to make sure that the person will be able to retain his/her dignity and his/her self respect.
