Eight-time champion Serena Williams had to withdraw from the Miami Open due to a knee injury. Williams attained the third round by beating Rebecca Peterson, only the seventh watch she has completed in 2019. Williams was set to compete with Wang Qiang in the last thirty -two. World number one tennis player, Naomi Osaka lost to Hgieh-Su-Wei and ranked 27th in their third-round tie.

Williams has now retreated from two successive Women’s Tennis Association events. Last time, she had a viral sickness. She asserted the Miami title in 2015, and her previous Grand Slam win was at the 2017 Australian open. Williams hopes to return to Miami next year.
