Most times, to cope with an aggressive partner is one of the most difficult things to do, especially when you don't know the exact thing you did wrong that led to the sudden change in behavior of your partner. When two people are in a relationship, and it seems one of them can get angry over anything, then the relationship is at stake.

One of the things I've found out is that you shouldn't try to control an aggressive partner. They don't like it; this approach can be counterproductive because they will always want to defend themselves. And when this happens, you won't get their cooperation, and it might degenerate to something that won't be healthy for your relationship. Also, an aggressive partner will always want you to treat him(her) with respect. For instance, how do you cope with someone that easily gets provoked? You come to their level and treat your differences in love and respect.

The biggest challenge that you have to face when you are dealing with an angry partner is you have to make sure that you will not become aggressive and angry as well. The moment that you get to control this, you should know how to make your partner realize it too.

You should not become submissive to the point that you will be bullied by your partner to do everything that he/she wants you to do. Assert your rights as an equal of your partner but do not match up to his/her anger. You can also take time to walk away first so that your partner will have space to think about how he/she is acting.

Dealing with an aggressive partner requires a lot of things. Most times, you don't even know how to respond to the situation since you have no idea what exactly is the problem with your partner. At times, your partner can just start being aggressive about things he can't literally explain, and this is exactly where the problem lies because you might start thinking whether you are the problem or not. Dealing with an aggressive partner all starts with identifying certain things about your partner's behavior.

Do this by identifying different signs that show he/she is about to start showing it. At this point, your job is to develop tricks or ways to make things not to go out of hand. Another thing is that you should be conscious of your reaction to an aggressive partner. This will really help a lot; don't escalate things whenever it seems your partner is becoming unnecessarily aggressive. Try different ways to calm your partner; let him see why things should be addressed gently.
