The purpose of sending Chandrayaan-2 into orbit was to study the elemental materials present in the moon's exosphere and surface. The mission was placed on the southern pole of the moon, and the goal was to enhance the chances of finding water. They measured how much water is in unexplored areas, and to determine whether or not there were circulation patterns.
