Akita inu and American Akita are two different dogs that people think are the same because of the similarity in their names. But these dogs are different in several ways such as their character, color and appearance. One of the visible differences between Akita Inu and American Akita is the shape of their heads. The American Akita dogs have small eyes with a large head like of a triangular shape. Their heads resemble that of bears. The Akita inu, on the other hand, have their ears set a little lower and forward with a kind of almond eyes.

American Akita is usually bred as a guard dog, while Akita inu is usually bred as a companion dog. They are also different in heights and weights.
