The combination of elements or substances makes a mixture. At times, needs call for us to separate or give account for every element present in a mixture, GC-MS and LC-MS can be used to hasten or ease this identification or separation process.

Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry is actually abbreviated into LC-MS, while GC-MS is the abbreviation of gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. These methods make use of chromatography separation technique first; then they go ahead to examine them by the mass spectrum, through which they identify them also.

The two methods also require a stationary phase and a mobile phase. But one of their differences is that GC-MS makes use of inert gasses like helium as its mobile phase, while LC-MS makes use of a solvent in the same capacity. The GC-MS is more preferable as a standard for the identification of forensic science. This is actually because it tests for specific substances, it is of a lesser price compared to LC-MS, and it is also easier to operate.

GC-MS and LC-MS are science techniques to identify all of the substances that are in a sample. Once identified, they are separated and examined by those in forensics. They both have mobile and stationary bases.GC-MS stands for gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. It is used in samples when molecules are thermally stable.

LC-MS stands for liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. It can be used for both thermal and non-volatile molecules. GC-MS uses gases, while LC-MS uses solvents. Though both are effective, GC-MS is preferred for forensics. Not only is it more reliable, but it is also lower-priced, and it is cheaper to operate.
