A ballad and a sonnet are two types of poems. They are not just types of poems, but each of them comes with a unique style. A ballad is a kind of narrative poem in the form of recitation or songs. A ballad creates its poetry in the areas of romance, sentiment, history, comedy, and tragedy. A ballad is best enjoyed if the performer is a good singer and rhythm that suits it is played.

A sonnet is also a type of poem which is more of lyrics. It is a fixed verse form originated of Italian kinds of poetry and consists of fourteen lines that are typically five-foot iambics and rhyme. A sonnet, although it is more of lyrics, has a unique rhythm that can be played along with it. Another difference is that, in terms of complexity, a sonnet is more complex than a ballad because of its lyrical effect, which must be adequately mastered.
