Two standard drinks and alcohols are vodka and rum. Vodka is known or believed to come from Russia. Rum is supposed to go from the Caribbeans or tropical islands. Rum is made with sugar and molasses besides alcohol. Potatoes and grains are used to make vodka. If you were going to drink straight vodka or rum, which I do not suggest doing, the rum would taste better because of the sugar and molasses in it.

Vodka straight from the bottle would not taste very good. It should be mixed with other ingredients to have good taste. Cocktails are made with vodka more than they are made with rum. However, martinis are made with rum, but some martinis have vodka in them too.
