Corpus Christi started in the year 1246. Robert de Torote ordered this to be celebrated. If you translated Corpus Christi, you would get “Body of Christ.” A lot of people do not know that Corpus Christi is named after a town. This town can be found in Spain, and this is said to be a semitropical bay with lush surroundings. It may have started many centuries ago, but a lot of people are still celebrating it right now.

Corpus Christi was primarily started due to the efforts of Juliana of Liège, A Belgium City. Juliana claimed that she had visions of Jesus Christ telling her that a feast should be celebrated in honor of the Holy Eucharist. She narrated the same to bishops Hugh of St-Cher, Jacques Pantaléon, and Robert of Thourotte. However, they were only able to practice in their diocese.

Years later, Pope Urban IV gave a decree to celebrate Corpus Christi in the Roman Catholic Church. However, he died soon after he gave the decree, and the decree was not passed to all churches. After the intervention of Pope Clement IV in 1311 to make the feast mandatory, the festival becomes widespread.
