If you have ever saved a document that has an image on it, it may be too large to send to someone. That has to do with the pixels and how much storage is needed for that image. PPI stands for pixels per inch, and DPI stands for dots per inch. It seems that the more dots or pixels that an image has, then the clearer the image is.

Designers primarily use PPI because of the pixels. Technical people use DPI because they use dots. However, some people get confused and say one when they mean the other. If you need to print a document, you will need to know which one to use. It might be simple to determine the difference between the two.
