Cola is a general term used to describe a bunch of soda type of drinks. Most of the time, people refer to cola as coke. Coke is the most popular soft drink in the world. However, in different parts of the world, the term “cola” is used to describe mixed soft drinks. One of those soft drinks is root beer. These drinks are carbonated.

Root beer might be one of them. So, the difference between the two is that one is a broader category of the other, and the other one fits into that category.
