Both FAT and FAT32 are often seen when formatting hard drives as they are used on computers to file systems. FAT or File Allocation Table has a function of mapping out the areas of a drive that contain files and areas that are unused. FAT32, on the other hand, is the newer version of FAT and can do partitions up to 2000 GB or 2 TB.

FAT is the original variant FAT32 evolved from. FAT32 is the widely used FAT nowadays for its reliability and compatibility to the newer gadgets of today. However, FAT32 is recommended for the present media that have capacities of 32 GB and under to be able to use it easily without experiencing lags and deficiency in storage.
