This can be very helpful when you want something that can be played in most hardware players. Xvid is ideal if you would like to do some editing or if you would need more advanced features for the media files that you want to get. Both Divx and Xdiv are free to use but the code source of Divx is protected, while the code source of Xdiv is not protected, which means, you can manipulate the code source for your desired purpose. The quality of any video compression made by Xdiv is sharp, while the quality of video compression made by Divx has a kind of artifacts around the video which shows that, it has been compressed. Xdiv codec cannot be used to view any video compression made by Divx, while Divx codec cannot be used to view any video compression made by Xdiv.
