CH3COCOO is the chemical compound of pyruvate acid. This acid is the carboxylate anion or conjugate base of pyruvic acid. Out of all the alpha-keto acids, Pyruvate is the simplest. Along with that, Pyruvate is important in biochemistry. This is because it is the product of glycolysis.

Another reason why Pyruvate is important is that it gives energy to cells. This is done through the citric acid cycle. For Pyruvate to give energy to cells, oxygen must be present. Pyruvate is also important because it makes lactate. This process will occur when fermentation occurs, which means that the oxygen is lacking.

One thing that is true about the pyruvate molecule is that it is not a protein. This is an important chemical compound that is being used in biochemistry. This is the output of glycolysis when glucose is used.

One molecule of glucose will go through glycolysis in order to create two molecules of pyruvate. Pyruvate will then be used so that energy can be created. Pyruvate can also be converted further. It can be created into carbohydrates but in order to do this, gluconeogenesis is needed.

It can also be converted into fatty acids. Take note that pyruvate will also be used to make the Krebs cycle possible but it can only be done when there is enough oxygen available.
