Both Fat and oil have the same chemical structure and they are esters of glycerol. Fat and oil are organic compounds which are insoluble in water but they are soluble in an organic solvent. Fat and oil are the most abundant lipids on earth, they are the energy reservoir of the body, they also help in insulting the body. But there is a major difference between the two.

The major difference between fat and oil is their states at room temperature. Fats are generally solid at room temperature while oils are liquid at room temperature. As of result, fats have higher melting points than oils. Fats are saturated organic compounds because all their carbons are bonded to the needed hydrogen while oils are unsaturated organic compounds because their carbons are not totally bonded to the hydrogen. Fats are gotten from animals while oils are gotten from plants, for example mustard oil and olive oil.
