Both plywood and MDF board, which is minimum density fiberboard, are made of wood and are utilized for building furniture for homes and offices. The chief distinction is that plywood is made from solid wood, whereas the MDF board is made from compacted wood fibers.

There are many more sizes in which plywood is accessible than MDF board. The nailed and screwed plywood has much more strength than that of MDF board. MDF board supplies a more remarkable surface finish to the furniture than that provided by the plywood.

There is a need to use different materials to build different items. Plywood is known to be thin which would need to be glued together so that they can work properly. Some feel that this is very thin so if they would be used to separate rooms, it would be easy to hear what people in the other room are doing.

MDF wood is normally made out of the fibers from hardwood and softwood. The fibers are mixed with the use of wax and also resin so that it can keep its board shape. MDF is more commonly used to create furniture because this is easier to work with as compared to plywood.

Plywoods are thin sheets of veneer, which are glued together. There are different types of veneers that can be used. Face veneers are more higher grade than core veneers. MDFs are wood fibers that are broken down by softwood and hardwood residuals. They are combined by using resin and wax. MDF is more uniform and smooth. They both have different uses.

Plywood is used for items such as roofs, sports and playground equipment, and boxes. MDF is used for crafts and cabinet construction. Plywood is stronger, while MDF is smoother, making it easier to paint or stain on. Both are waterproof, but plywood is boilproof, while MDF is fireproof.
