Many babies that are born with Down Syndrome are born early. Their birth weight may be low and they may need to be monitored in the hospital because they are so little. Any baby that is born premature needs to be monitored. That is because they may not have fully produced their organs and everything that they need to live. Therefore, the hospital needs to make sure that they are developing.

However, if they were born much earlier than expected, then they are more likely at a greater risk of needing health care. However, some babies with Down Syndrome are born on time.
