Mbbs is a medical qualification which demonstrates gruaduate level competence in medicine and in surgery. It stands for bachelor of medicine, bachelor of surgery, and in this way is distinct from MD - Doctor of Medicine - the standard medical qualification. Bachelor degrees are first degrees and not necessarily vocational certificates.
